Updating java on ubuntu

Einzige Ausnahme war die erste Erstveröffentlichung, die keine eigene Versionsnummer enthielt.

This package will be updated automatically as new releases become available.

Oracle JDK/Java is a proprietary implementation of the Java programming language from the Oracle Corporation.

The current setting for a given alternative (java, in this example) can been seen with the following command: Open JDK is a free and open source implementation of the Java programming language. Open JDK can be installed via Ubuntu's package system by running this command: This will install the development environment ("javac" comes from the JDK), and runtime environment ("java" comes from the JRE), and the browser plugin.

It has support from the Oracle Corporation and serves as the reference implementation of Java SE (Standard Edition). Firefox will automatically be configured to use the java plugin (though, Firefox may need to be restarted for this to take effect).

Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak is no longer supported by Canonical (and thus, Launchpad and this PPA).

The PPA supports Ubuntu 17.10, 17.04, 16.04, 14.04 and 12.04. For now, you should continue to use Java 8 because Oracle Java 9 is available as an early access release!

Or if you don't want to upgrade you'll need to attempt a manual installation like I liked in the original answer.$ cd /tmp $ wget

Auth Param\=1458001079_a6c78c74b34d63befd53037da604746c $ tar xzf jdk-8u74-linux-x64gz?

PPA method is easier and faster than manual installation.
